WasteBolt Gate: Log Loads, AI Upload & Auto-Create WTNs
WasteBolt Gate is a faster, more flexible way to capture incoming waste loads and turn them into digital WTNs — whether you're at a gatehouse, a small site without a weighbridge, or receiving paper documents by email.
What is WasteBolt Gate?
Gate is the intake layer of WasteBolt. Instead of manually filling in a WTN from scratch every time a vehicle arrives, Gate lets you log the load quickly — using one of three methods — and then the record is held in a staging queue where you assign a quick-fill template to complete all the standard fields automatically.
This is particularly useful for:
- Waste transfer and recycling sites receiving multiple loads per day
- Small operators who receive paper WTNs or emailed PDFs and need to digitise them quickly
- Sites without a weighbridge where direct CSV import to DWT isn't an option
- Gatehouse teams who need a fast check-in tool that doesn't require full WTN knowledge

Three ways to log a load
Log New Load
Best for: gatehouse teams, in-person vehicle check-in
Fill in the gate log form — vehicle registration, waste type, approximate weight, date and time of arrival. If the vehicle is in your system, the producer, carrier and consignee fields auto-populate from the vehicle profile. The load is added to the staging queue in seconds.
Bolt Upload (AI Scan)
Best for: paper WTNs, emailed PDFs, photographed documents
Take a photo or upload a scan of a paper waste transfer note. WasteBolt's AI reads the document and pre-fills as many fields as it can — producer, EWC code, carrier, weight, and more. You review, correct anything the AI missed, and the record is staged. No manual re-entry.
CSV Import
Best for: batch data from spreadsheets, export files from other systems
Upload a spreadsheet of loads in one go. Map your columns to WasteBolt fields using the column mapper, then all rows are staged at once. Ideal for importing historical records or batching a day's loads from a spreadsheet.
The staging queue
Every load — regardless of input method — lands in the staging queue at /gate/staging-review. Think of it as a holding area: the core intake data is captured, but the document isn't finalised yet.
Each staged record shows the vehicle, waste type, arrival date, and any DWT readiness indicators. You can see at a glance which records need attention.
Select a template that matches the load type. The template auto-fills producer, carrier, consignee, EWC code, SIC code, means of transport, and standard notes — saving you from filling these in manually every time.
Review the pre-filled WTN or consignment note, make any final edits, and issue it. The document moves out of staging and into your Waste Movements.
If you're set up for Digital Waste Tracking, issued records can be submitted directly to the Environment Agency from within WasteBolt.
Quick-fill templates
Templates are the key to Gate's speed
Each template represents a regular load type — e.g. "Mixed C&D waste from Site X". It stores the producer, carrier, consignee, EWC code, SIC code, and standard notes so you never have to type them again. Once a template is set up, assigning it to a staged record takes one click.
Templates are managed from Add Waste Movement → Quick-Fill Templates. Create one per common load type and Gate becomes very fast for repeat intake.
Gate with season tickets
If you have an active season ticket with a regular customer, you can log a gate load and link it to that ticket rather than issuing a standalone WTN. Each load adds to the season ticket's record — useful for sites receiving regular collections under a long-term arrangement.
WasteBolt Gate and Digital Waste Tracking
Gate is not a replacement for DWT — it's a record creation pathway that can feed into DWT. Once a staged record has been completed and issued as a WTN, if your account is connected to the Environment Agency's Digital Waste Tracking system, you can submit it directly from WasteBolt.
Gate is a great option for sites that don't have a weighbridge CSV export and can't use WasteBolt Bridge — the intake still happens through Gate, and records can still be submitted to DWT once issued.
